As an immigrant, La Mitad de Mi Corazón touched my emotions, because I found myself in the stories of others. We have something in common, we try to construct a better life.
For me as a dual language elementary teacher, Half of My Heart has been a great resource in planning a unit on immigration as well as simply allowing me to become more sensitive to the experiences of my students and their families. It has served as a window into the many ways in which the immigration experience affects families and individuals.
Half of My Heart is an inspiring and valuable book for educators, students and lay people alike. It provides readers accounts of the experiences of recent immigrants that open minds and hearts to the struggles, perseverance and resilience of these newcomers. This book can only deepen readers' understanding of, and respect for, the multicultural legacy of America.

The transcribed narratives, ranging from a few lines to several pages, present a vivid and moving picture of the realities of immigration, told in the immigrants' own words.
